Former Megadeth members bassist David Ellefson and guitarist Jeff Young are currently in the studio recording the debut material for Kings Of Thrash. According to Young in an interview with Ghost Cult, the duo are hitting the studio tomorrow to begin recording. Young compares the material to Megadeth, though with some Soundgarden and Tool vibes thrown in.
"We're going in the studio Thursday to lay down the rhythm guitar one and drums to the first original. And we're doing it to two-inch tape analog-style, live in a room like real men, they used to do… They're just demos right now with my guitar and bass and a click track. Soon they'll have drums and it'll be a real version of the first song. But people we've let hear it are really digging it.
"It's got the vibe of Megadeth — it's on that playing field, but it's got all of its own stuff and all of our influences and some Soundgarden [or] Tool vibes in maybe the music and melodies."
Ellefson previously elaborated on the idea to work on new music as Kings Of Thrash in a recent interview with The Neurotic Guitarist, saying some of the material is back from when Megadeth toured on So Far, So Good… So What!
"When we started filming the Nick Menza documentary, which was back in January, we all came to L.A. and filmed. We were sitting at the Rainbow one night having dinner, and Jeff goes, 'Remember those couple of riffs that I had that were from the So Far, So Good… So What! tour… And as he hummed them to me, I go, 'Dude, I totally remember those riffs. I totally remember 'em.' And they're kind of complex, kind of music nerdish but cool and heavy.
"And I go, 'Oh my God. We've gotta get in a frickin' room and work on these.' So Mike Heller [Fear Factory and Raven drummer], who's a great producer as well as a drummer, we have put some tracks down. We've written songs. Now we just have to get them recorded."
