THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From SOILWORK, BORN OF OSIRIS and More Out Today – 1/11

This week features djentiness with beeps and boops, djentiness without beeps and boops, and more (without beeps and boops)! To the metals…

1-11

I'd say we're still in the slow season, but heavy hitters are starting to pop up. So I'm back with The Weekly Injection, baby! This week features djentiness with beeps and boops, djentiness without beeps and boops, and more (without beeps and boops)! To the metals…

Born of Osiris – The Simulation THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From SOILWORK, BORN OF OSIRIS and More Out Today – 1/11

Genre: Progressive metalcore
Origin: Palatine, Illinois
Label: Sumerian

Are "mini-LPs" a thing or just a Sumerian thing? Last year Between The Buried and Me dropped two, but they weren't "EPs." I want to say that The Simulation is Born of Osiris' first album in four years, but since it's clocking in at twenty-five minutes, I don't know if that would be a true statement. Anyway, this is the unmistakable blend of djent, metalcore, and electronic beeps and boops one would hope for and expect from this band.

Jinjer – MicroTHE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From SOILWORK, BORN OF OSIRIS and More Out Today – 1/11

Genre: Progressive metalcore
Origin: Horlivka, Ukraine
Label: Napalm

Jinjer are currently working on their follow-up to 2016's King of Everything, but in the mean time they're giving fans this five track EP to hold them over. Like BOO, this has proggy metalcore and djent moments. Jinjer, however, forego the beeps and boops. Still, the two would pair well together.

Lost in Grey – The Waste LandTHE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From SOILWORK, BORN OF OSIRIS and More Out Today – 1/11

Genre: Symphonic Metal
Origin: Hyvinkää, Finland
Label: Reaper Entertainment

Here's something epic for you. Lost in Grey are a fairly young band and this is their second album. They are symphonic band that implements some folk sounds and showcase a duel lead vocal approach. The Waste Land is a fun journey of an album and fans of Stream of Passion, After Forever, and the likes will probably dig this.

Nailed To Obscurity – Black Frost THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From SOILWORK, BORN OF OSIRIS and More Out Today – 1/11

Genre: Melodic Doom/Death Metal
Origin: Esens, Germany
Label: Nuclear Blast

Are you big on slow bois? Then this is the record for you this week. This is the band's fourth album, but their Nuclear Blast debut. They have some moments that remind me of Insomnium, but this is are slower affair.

Soilwork – Verkligheten THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From SOILWORK, BORN OF OSIRIS and More Out Today – 1/11

Genre: Melodic death metal/groove metal
Origin: Helsingborg, Sweden
Label: Nuclear Blast

I feel like there are two camps of Soilwork fans out there. Those that feel like we are in the golden age of the band, and those that are wrong. The Living Infinite and The Ride Majestic are both damn near flawless albums, and this one falls right in line. Sure, this is the first album without Dirk, but Bastian Thusgaard certainly has some chops.

Static Tension – Ashes to AnimationTHE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From SOILWORK, BORN OF OSIRIS and More Out Today – 1/11

Genre: Progressive Grunge Rock
Origin: Cincinnati, Ohio
Label: Buried By Sky Records

I know very little about this band, but Ashes to Animation is a pretty good introduction. They are clearly influenced by 90's grunge acts, yet also have a sounds that brings bands like Corrosion of Conformity, Rush, and Clutch to mind. There is a lot of weirdness mixed into an Alice and Chains vibe here.
