High On Fire is in the studio for the follow-up to their 2018 record Electric Messiah. The band is once again working with Kurt Ballou, who produced the last three High On Fire records. The new record is also the first High On Fire record with drummer Coady Willis (Big Business, ex-Melvins), who joined the band in 2021 after the departure of Des Kensel.
"We are in the midst of recording our new album with Kurt Ballou [at GodCity Studios]," wrote High On Fire. "It's sounding absolutely crushing—get ready!"
High On Fire is currently booked for the inaugural Hell In The Harbor festival alongside bands like Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus, and Napalm Death. You can also catch High On Fire bassist Jeff Matz on the new Mutoid Man album, whenever that gets announced.
And if you're new to High On Fire, frontman Matt Pike recently shared the one song he thinks any fan should start with.
"I guess the one that would stand out the most, that I would want someone to hear for the first time, definitely would be the song 'Fury Whip,' the opening song on Death Is This Communion," said Pike. "It encompasses almost everything High On Fire is aside from some of the more dirge-y shit we do. But that’s High On Fire in a nutshell, that sound. That song hammers. I lucked out. It dropped out of the sky. It took us like an hour to write it. I was like, Dude that’s fucking awesome. Wow. It’s definitely a good opener."
