Honoring deceased family seems to be a running theme for Mastodon. Crack The Skye paid tribute to drummer Brann Dailor's sister, The Hunter was a nod to Brent Hinds' brother, and even the track "Aunt Lisa" from Once More 'Round The Sun was an homage to Dailor's aunt. Now Dailor is paying tribute to his grandmother Jeanne on the band's upcoming new album by playing her bass on a song.
How cool is that? I'm curious to see how the song shapes up, what Dailor comes up with for a bass line, and how that hollowbody sound is going to fit (assuming that's a Hofner)! Mastodon is currently in the studio with producer Brendan O’Brien (Rage Against The Machine, Korn).
