Maynard James Keenan Compares TOOL's New Album To Chinese Democracy

He knows it took forever.

He knows it took forever.

2018 is the year where we finally get the new Tool album, for reals. The band is currently in the studio knocking it out right now and it's not lost on frontman Maynard James Keenan that it took forever. Speaking with Revolver, Keenan says he's aware that Tool took an eternity to do the new one, and compares the album to Guns N' Roses' 2008 album Chinese Democracy (which took the band 15 years and kept "almost coming out").

Keenan adds that he ended up doing the new A Perfect Circle album because of the delay in Tool's work.

"I had this other looming project [Tool] that can’t seem to go forward, as much as I’ve tried, every magic word in the book that I tried. It’s just no different – and worse because there’s pressure now, and what are we? 'Chinese Democracy II' or III? So I saw a window [to work on A Perfect Circle.]"

Keenan jokes that if he were to do a new Puscifer record right now, "I'm going to get fucking murdered in my sleep because people are going to keep blaming that project for the delay – when it’s not." So there you have it – everyone is working on the new Tool record. It's happening.
