METALLICA's Doc Some Kind of Monster Coming To BluRay on 10th Anniversary of Release

Ten years ago, Metallica revealed their true selves in the incredibly insightful documentary Some Kind of Monster, which revolved around the band losing bassist Jason Newsted, writing their album, St. Anger and eventually finding new bassist Robert Trujillo. It was an incredibly eye-opening doc that painted certain members of the band in a bit of a shitty light. Honestly, as the doc went on, it almost became hard to watch what my heroes have become. But that's almost a reflection of how powerful the documentary is.

Sure enough, it's been ten years since its release, so Metallica are putting a fresh coat of paint on it and releasing a 2-disc BluRay version on November 24, 2014, as well as at various streaming on-demand outlets. There will also be a new mini-documentary about the fallout of the movie. According to the press release:

This ten-year anniversary release marks the first time METALLICA: Some Kind of Monster will be available digitally and via Video On Demand. The updated version will contain an additional bonus feature, "Metallica: This Monster Lives," a 25 minute follow-up piece filmed at Toronto International Film Festival 2013 during the release of the band's second film, Metallica: Through the Never, which features interview footage with the band and Berlinger & Sinofsky that looks at the decade since the release of the documentary film.

It will be interesting to hear how the band choose to revisit the material in the film and how they look back at it 10 years later.

What did you think of the doc?
