Fall's arrival signals the year's busiest season for new music, and if death metal, thrash or metalcore raises your index and pinky, chances are there's something you'll enjoy hitting stores this Tuesday, September 30.
Amon Amarth—Twilight of the Thunder God (Metal Blade)
Sweden's finest death metal vikings hit a peak with 2006's With Oden on Our Side, and the two new songs streaming from their Myspace (plus reported cameos from Apocalyptica and Children of Bodom's Roope Latvala) assure that we may be looking at another winner.
Bleeding Through — Declaration (Trustkill)
Devin Townshend's production on the latest from the Orange County-based crew is sure to turn some heads, possibly taking Bleeding Through closer to Townsend's own innovations and further from the mallcore bands that Bleeding Through shares a bill with on their upcoming winter tour.
In This Moment — The Dream (Century Media)
After a huge push from Headbanger's Ball, Sirius Satellite Radio, and separate opening slots for Ozzy Osbourne and Megadeth, In This Moment follow up last year's Beautiful Tragedy could very well make these guys (and girl) ubiquitous. Watch out.
Misery Index — Traitors (Relapse)
If current economic turmoil and the media frenzy over the '08 election doesn't have you fired up yet, then the third album from Relapse's politically-minded Marylanders is sure to do the trick. The whole thing is streaming here, and if you've never checked this band out, now's the time.
Trivium—Shogun (Roadrunner)
Whether you think they're the saviors of modern thrash or watered down metalcore, everyone seems to have an opinion on Trivium. But there's no arguing that they're one of the most talked-about bands in metal, and Shogun, streaming here in its entirety, is one of the year's most anticipated releases.
