One aspect of Slipknot's massive dump of information this morning that cannot be overlooked is the band confirmed what we assumed last week – their new album will be released in August.
Friday, August 9, 2019 to be specific. The band made sure to include that piece of information with their tour announcement, because every ticket purchase will come with a free digital download of the album on release day. That will be a great way for the band to ensure they are atop the Billboard charts that week as they would have a huge head start on sales, counting all the tour ticket buyers.
The band have been very secretive with the contents of the new album, save for the single "All Out Life" released late last year. On the promotion website for the upcoming Knotfest Roadshow, it should be noted that the Slipknot promo photo is from the prior album cycle except it features all the faces purposely scratched out, implying new masks are imminent.
Slipknot's new album is among our most anticipated for 2019, and we know the band is working on it right now, and things are getting bloody.
Recently, Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor spoke to the Des Moines Register to promote the band's headlining gig at the Des Moines State Fair and Taylor gave some hints as to what the new music sounds like.
“(It’s) gonna be evil. It’s going to be ridiculous, let’s put it that way.”
When asked how the rest of the album compares to the already released new single, "All Out Life," he implies the rest of the album is even darker than the single:
“[‘All Out Life’ isn’t] nearly as dark and vicious as the rest of the stuff that we have that we’re working on.”
Taylor elaborated on the lyric writing process as well, saying it was a tough time for him with his divorce finalized, sinking into a deep depression and going through it sober. He hopes to take maggots on that journey with him through the lyrics:
“All I was doing was giving and I found myself absolutely, completely tapped. You could see it in my skin. You could see it in my eyes. That’s basically the journey I’m going to take people on this album … show them what happens to depression when you have no chemicals to fall back on.”
