Dead Earth Politics have made a name for themselves in recent years as one of Austin's most promising metal bands. With three EP's and a full length since 2008, they have remained one of the genres busiest bands, and reports seem to indicate that the best is yet to come. Their sound – a sort of fusion of Iron Maiden and Lamb Of God has evolved quite a bit over the years, and this new track, 'Runescarred,' the first off of their upcoming record The Mobius Hammersmith, suggests that this will be both their most progressive, and heaviest record to date. Things have been going well for Dead Earth Politics these last couple of years and it seems to me that The Mobius Hammersmith might be what makes them into the modern day metal lords they so clearly deserve to be. Yeah – I really like this band – what are you going to do about it?
As for the song and video themselves, I don't think I can give a loud enough "Hell yeah." Not only is the song a perfect example of the modern metal paradigm, but the video is also utterly sick. It captures all the cheese that a metal video should have whilst simultaneously showcasing the raw power of Dead Earth Politics. I'm not entirely sure I understand anything beyond the basic plot line (Or even if there is anything beyond the basic plot line) but I sure as hell have fun watching it. I mean there's magic, swords and hooded dudes with beards. What more can you want out of a metal video? It's exciting to hear that Dead Earth Politics are at their best now, eight years into their career. There's a lot of fun stuff to pick apart in this song and it along with the video have high replay value – so get ready to dive on in!
