German instrumental doom masters Neánder are set to release their sophomore album Eremit Oct. 9 via Through Love Records, and if you're not familiar, they're a band to pay attention to. Today, we have the exclusive premiere of the album's closing track "ATLAS," which is accompanied here by an abstract new video.
If you took the atmospheric sludge of Cult of Luna, dipped it in the sweet stoner resin of Sleep and filtered if through a vast, cinematic lens, the mountainous soundscapes of Neánder would burst through. "ATLAS" is a perfect example of why Neánder is beginning to make waves in the underground metal circuit. The band's guitarist Jan Korbach says of the track:
'Atlas' is the closing track of 'Eremit.' With all the ups and downs – within rhythm and chord progression – breaks and mood changes; it might be the most experimental song of the album. I really like this fact because the track may lead into our future as an artist. The song has to be perceived as one with 'Clivina' (the song that leads towards 'Atlas'). With over 14 minutes this is also our longest track (until now). It's truly a marathon, not a sprint.
