Wake has easily become one of my favorite bands over the years. Between their 2020 album Devouring Ruin and 2021 EP Confluence, and now their new stuff, this band simply cannot do any wrong. Take for instance their new single "Swallow The Light" – it's brutal as hell and plenty grindy, but with more than enough memorable parts to hook right into your brain. Take notes!
Wake will release their new record Thought Form Descent on July 22. The record was produced by Dave Otero (Allegaeon, Cattle Decapitation) at Flatline Audio and offers two songs featuring Kevin Hufnagel of Gorguts. Pre-orders for Thought Form Descent are available here.
"I'd describe the record as a place to reconsider what 'extreme' means," said the band. "The words 'brutal', 'crushing', 'devastating' are overused adjectives for extreme music. We wanted to force people to confront the idea that 'brutal' or 'extreme' ideas aren't just blastbeats or angular tritones, or, more importantly, 'brutal' elements alongside pointedly passive elements can create their own experience that can channel both and neither."
