It’s Monday and Mondays suck, so let’s grind it out with a track from Deaf Club titled “Bright Side of Death.”
Back in April a project by the name of More Pain was released between Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and Justin Pearson (The Locust, Crimson Curse, Holy Molar, Retox, Head Wound City, Dead Cross, and more). It was thrashy, grinding and over before it started. Three tracks on a flexi and only about a minute’s worth of music. But it was infectious and commanded more. You can hear it below.
Fast forward a few months and Pearson is back with Brian Amalfitano (ACxDC), Scott Osment (Weak Flesh), Jason Klein (Run With The Hunted), and Leo Ulfelder (Fissure) to bring us even more pain. Deaf Club continues the blasting, raging sound that More Pain began.
“Bright Side of Death” is just over a minute of blasting grindcore/powerviolence-esque madness. The song is noisy and suffocating the moment it blows through the speakers. Pure punk attitude with an ax to grind. A little bit of feedback, a little guitar melody and suddenly the track is a full-on assault. The track breaks down for only a moment only to speed up. It returns to its grind like its circling wagons before coming to an end. It’s brief, it’s ugly, and it’s only a taste of things to come.
Deaf Club’s upcoming EP Contemporary Sickness is currently TBA for a release date. Three One G will release it on digital and limited vinyl. Be on the lookout for this one and get grinding on it.
