Hey there, tech fiends. It's that time of the week again. Before we dive into today's focus, here's the usual weekly reminder that if you're looking for even more sick bands to hear, all prior editions of this series can be perused here.
While it's inevitable that anyone whose primary focus within music lies in a particular niche will become picky over time, it still helps to try to give everything a shot. By that, I am mean I wasn't a big fan of Sunspeaker though their incarnation as Ov Lustra was stronger, and I didn't find any of it bad per se. It just didn't excite me on a personal level enough to get hyped about it. So when someone reached out to me about a new project called Zero Dawn with some of their members, I was open to hearing it and tried my best not to pre-judge it.
That was for the best since Zero Dawn is sick and I'm glad to help them premiere "Day of Wrath" today. Whether it's the project's inclusion of Sidian mastermind Wyatt Sharp or just all of the musicians growing over time, this project delivers a more fully realized and expansive vision of what Sunspeaker and Ov Lustra hinted at in their best moments.
As the band was kind enough to share with me regarding today's premiere “Our first song “Day of Wrath” enthralls the listener within a world on the brink of destruction as man-made machines begin to wreak havoc and drain the very essence of life from the ground. The greed and arrogance of man knew no bounds; and now they will pay with their lives. The sun rises as their final dawn unfolds. Evacuation is futile.”
Mixing blackened tech-death, heavy as fuck "core" elements, and atmospheric flourishes into a hellish mass, Zero Dawn – "Day of Wrath" is a powerful opening statement of intent from a brand new project. You can follow them over on the Zero Dawn Facebook Page.
