ZERO DAWN Feed On The "Obsolete" Pain Of Existing

Zero Dawn art

Hey there, tech fiends. It's that time of the week again. Before we dive into today's focus, here's the usual weekly reminder that if you're looking for even more sick bands to hear, all prior editions of this series can be perused here.

Outside of the upcoming Alustrium and Deeds of Flesh releases, I'm not seeing much of anything that's within the tech-death sphere in regards to the remaining 2020 efforts that we know will drop. There's a number of under-the-radar albums I'll be covering before the year ends that deserve attention but this seems like all the more reason to bring you something new today.

If you've been following this space, we premiered the first single by Zero Dawn on January 28th this year. It's a brand new project largely led by members of the now-defunct Ov Lustra/Sun Speaker with the addition of Sidian mastermind Wyatt Sharp. The group's focus is a particularly heavy and atmospheric take on blackened tech-death, and today's premiere of "Obsolete" is another thrilling song from a project that shows a lot of promise. As I understand it, the group is hard at work on an upcoming EP and today's premiere is also aided by new art from one of my friends, Justin Si-Set Abraham.

As usual, I asked the band for some background information regarding today's premiere and was told by Zero Dawn vocalist Randy Abbott that "While our first song “Day of Wrath” told of the morning a machine invasion began to wreak havoc across the world, this next single takes a step back to the moment the chaos first unfolded. “Obsolete” puts the listener in the position of the head researcher on the development team that created these deadly machines gone rogue, detailing his thoughts as he watches his life’s work crumble and destroy everything and everyone he held dear."

With any luck, we'll hear more Zero Dawn in 2021, and hopefully, it's a fully fleshed out EP as planned by then! At any rate, check out "Obsolete" below. You can follow the group over on the Zero Dawn Facebook Page and Zero Dawn Bandcamp Page.
