Mastodon and Denmark’s Mikkeller Brewing teamed up for the Decibel Metal & Beer Fest 2017 to unveil the Mother Puncher Farmhouse IPA. The duo have collaborated once more to create the Sultan’s Curse imperial stout, though you won't have to wait for the next festival to get your hands on it.
According to Decibel themselves, the imperial stout is out now at Mikkeller's location in San Diego. Drummer for Mastodon Brann Dailor likens the beer and brewery to Mastodon's music, saying "we’re cut from the same cloth."
"We love collaborating with Mikkeller because we feel like we’re cut from the same cloth. Mikkeller is always being incredibly creative and pushing the boundaries in the beer world and that’s what we try to do with our music."
Mikkeller described the beer as a "monster imperial stout with intense layers of dates and coffee, which sit gracefully above a complementing cardamom brightness. Toasted pistachios bring depth and texture alongside an integrated spiced and vanilla bouquet from the bourbon-barrel aging."
So basically a heavy beer just in time for the coming fall weather, and of course in celebration of Mastodon's new album Emperor Of Sand!
Mastodon are not shy about their love of beer, having their own line of beer steins and previously releasing a fruity IPA and a "Black Tongue" double black IPA with Mikkeller.
