These bands embody all the best things about metal: catchy riffs and great songwriting, effective use of melody to create a narrative structure, vocals soaked in reverb, and all the brutality one needs without resorting to cheesiness or self-parody.

Sacramentum

Though hailing from Gothenburg, Sacramentum might have the most sonic resemblance to Dissection out of all the bands in this list. Like the other bands here, the vocals are like a call from the frozen valleys, with almost too much reverb on Far Away From the Sun. They would later correct this on The Coming of Chaos. Like Dissection, the band takes particular care in weaving riffs together in a dizzying and beautiful way, such as they create an atmosphere several worlds deep.
