You know that feeling you get when you hear an album and it just has it? You're hooked from the first notes and nothing can break your attention all the way through. Time seems to freeze and, for a few moments, it's just you and the music. Well, the latest masterpiece from Lousiana's Forming the Void has it.
The doomy, stoner prog outfit is about the unleash their fourth full-length record Reverie into a virus-infested world, and it provides much-needed aural respite in its syrupy-thick riffs, trudging grooves and haunting melodies. Get lost in the exclusive premiere of it below.
It was evident from Forming the Void's early output that they were going to be a band to keep a close ear on. However, in the seven years they've been a band, they've exceeded all expectations and transcended into a band that simply cannot be ignored. Reverie is nothing short of a prime achievement in the stoner doom genre, one by which future albums that follow suit will be measured. It toes the line between underground and radio-friendly without sacrificing any of its sonic weight. Each mountainous riff builds into psychedelic crescendos that could coerce even the Dalai Lama himself into a headbanging-induced state of nirvana. Reverie will likely cement itself on many best of 2020 lists with the first listen, and will climb its way toward the top with each subsequent listen.
Reverie drops tomorrow, May 8 via Ripple Music. I implore you: Support Forming the Void and pick up a copy here. You won't regret it.
