Kvaen–the one-man black metal project of Ghost Ship Octavius touring guitarist Jakob Björnfot–is gearing up to release his debut album, The Funeral Pyre, on Feb. 28 via Black Lion Records.
In anticipation, the Swedish black metaller has steadily issued singles since December, including title track "The Funeral Pyre," which is an absolute banger due in part to a gnarly guest solo from Necrophobic's Sebtastian Ramstedt.
With fiery tremolo and aggression of a Norse god, the track blazes through a scathing repertoire of blackened arpeggios, whipping leads and a touch of vampyric savagery that borderlines 80's speed metal.
"'The Funeral Pyre' was one of the first songs that I composed for this album," Björnfot told No Clean Singing. "I wanted to write a song where I could feel the connection of spirits in Torne Valley and I have to say: I succeeded. The atmosphere, Sebastian’s solo, and the lyrics became something truly unique.”
