Otep is back for the first time in five years with a cover of Billie Eilish's 2018 single "You Should See Me In A Crown". The cover retains that dark electronic element of the original, though certainly throws in a heavy dose of breakdowns and screamed vocals.
"To me the song is a warning against cultural reduction, biased underestimation and the volatile anti-Newtonian reaction of judging someone before you know their true power," said Otep of the cover and the original.
As for the follow-up to her 2018 album Kult 45, Otep said in an interview with Wired In The Empire last September that things were coming together.
"We've just finished mixing, and we're about to go into mastering," she said. "And then it's really up to the label to decide when they're gonna release it, what they're gonna release, which single they're gonna release. I have some say as to, you know, what I recommend, but ultimately it lies on them."
