TOOL's "Sober" As A Deathcore Song Kinda Works

The chorus certainly loses something.

Backbiter is here with their deathcore cover of Tool's "Sober" and it's not bad! Instrumentally, the band really drives home the chunkiness of the original riff, and the breakdown toward the end is a nice touch!

Where this falls a little flat is the vocals. Not in their execution – the growls and all that sound fine – but in the fact that they kinda don't really belong. "Sober" largely relies on Maynard James Keenan's melodic lives above the droning riffs, and without that you just get… this.
