Pam & Tommy aired in early 2022 on Hulu and looked at the marriage between actress Pamela Anderson and Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee. Or more specifically, the period of time surrounding the infamous leak of their sex tape and the fallout in their personal lives.
In a new interview with Variety, Anderson shared that Lee reached out to her to offer support right after the release of the series. Lee and Anderson were married from 1995 until 1998 and have two sons together, Brandon and Dylan.
“I remember Tommy writing me a note saying, ‘Don’t let this hurt you like it did the first time,’ because he had heard through the kids that I was kind of struggling with the idea of bringing this all up again," Anderson said, adding, "I don’t think he was portrayed kindly. I just know that I refuse to watch it.”
Anderson categorized the producers of Pam & Tommy to Variety as "Assholes," described the series as “salt on the wound” then added, “You still owe me a public apology." (Noteworthy: this is not the first time Variety has reported on people being very, very angry with Hulu.) Anderson said that she has “nothing against [actress] Lily James," who portrayed her in Pam & Tommy, but described how when she saw a billboard for the series featuring James and co-star Sebastian Stan, her immediate reaction was that the pair “looked like a Halloween costume.”
Anderson goes on to explain that, “I think it’s hard to play somebody when you don’t know the whole picture. I think that she’s a beautiful girl and she was just doing the job. But the idea of the whole thing happening was just really crushing for me.” Still, Anderson has no hard feelings—she’d even like to invite James to the premiere of Pamela, A Love Story, she told Variety. Anderson said that her motivation to make the documentary was to “take control of the narrative for the first time.” Now at peace with her past, Pamela Anderson is finally the hero of her own life story.
