Meet Rinorea niccolifera, a recently discovered plant that actually eats metal. How, you ask? It absorbs nickel in high quantities.
Seeing as only less than one-percent of plants can do this, and we like to make crappy metal jokes, this was a fine opportunity for us. The plant was found on Luzon Island in the Philippines, where the soil has a lot of nickel in it. Between this and the heaviest matter in the universe being discovered last week (slightly exaggerated in order to make a Gojira joke), science is on a roll with the heavies!
