I got into the artwork of Jacob Bannon much sooner than I did Converge's music. In fact, seeing his amazing t-shirt designs is what originally inspired me to check out the band. Thus, it's exciting to hear about his new art venture, "The Jane Doe Project." Jane Doe is of course a very seminal album released by Converge in 2001, featuring the now iconic image of Jane Doe. Bannon has created 90 unique pieces based on the Doe artwork, using the screen print as a base and then applying techniques based on "Japanese Gouache, Acrylic, Spray Paint, Ink, and other mediums" to create each unique piece. This will be the focus of an upcoming documentary, and Bannon has made the one-of-a-kind pieces available for purchase in his store. Bannon writes "I will be handpicking each one that I send to my customers. Since each one has its own color palette, what color you will receive will be unique to you and you alone." You better have some deep pockets, as the pieces run about $700. From the video above, each piece looks vivid and unique in it's own way. ART!
