James Hetfield is having a pretty big year. Not only because Metallica is one month away from releasing their new album 72 Seasons, but because he's starring in a brand new movie called The Thicket.
According to Deadline, Hetfield will star in the film alongside well-known actors like Peter Dinklage (Game Of Thrones), Juliette Lewis (Yellowjackets), Esmé Creed-Miles (Hanna), Levon Hawke (The Crowded Room), and Leslie Grace (In The Heights). The Thicket was also produced Dinklage and is currently in production in Calgary.
"Set at the turn-of-the-century, The Thicket follows an innocent young man, Jack (Hawke), who goes on an epic quest to rescue his sister Lula (Creed-Miles) after she has been kidnapped by the violent killer Cut Throat Bill (Lewis) and her gang," reads a description of the film obtained by Deadline.
"To save her, Jack enlists the help of a crafty bounty hunter named Reginald Jones (Dinklage), a grave-digging alcoholic son of an ex-slave (Akinnagbe), and a street-smart prostitute (Grace). The gang tracks Cut Throat Bill into the deadly no-man’s land known as The Big Thicket — a place where blood and chaos reign."
Sounds pretty metal, right? This isn't Hetfield's first foray into acting, either. Hetfield starred as Officer Bob Hayward in the 2019 movie Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, and has done some voice acting for shows like Skylanders Academy, American Dad, and The Simpsons. Add in all those Metallica music videos and we're pretty sure Hetfield's got this.
Plus y'know, Hetfield has that whole "looking like a cowboy in the Wild West" vibe anyway. So this all works out.
