The Best GOJIRA Deep Cut From Every Album

It's also a good excuse to listen to Gojira.

Gojira-2021

As we all await a new Gojira record (which is hopefully coming this year), why not revisit some of the band's older and deeper cuts? Check out my picks for the best Gojira from each record below, which took into account how much the song was played live and how many streams it has in comparison to the rest of the songs on each album. Check out all Metal Injection's Deep Cuts lists right here.

"Space Time" – Terra Incognita (2001)

Pinch harmonics? Check. Big ass groove that might make you punch a hole in the earth? Check. Well-placed reverb'ed out snare? You betcha. "Space Time" is a killer of a track.

"Inward Movement" – The Link (2003)

Gojira really embraced their old-school "death metal song with a thousand parts and tempo changes" sound on "Inward Movement". This song hardly fits with anything they've done since, but damn is it a good one.

"World To Come" – From Mars To Sirius (2005)

Every song from From Mars To Sirius is good. There's no arguing this. But the generally downtrending melodies and overall speed of "World To Come" makes it an undeniable banger worthy of a listen.

"Esoteric Surgery" – The Way Of All Flesh (2008)

"Esoteric Surgery" is a maze, and the prize at the end of the maze is all your limbs are on fire. This song is relentlessly demanding, shiftingly technical, and easily one of the best songs on The Way Of All Flesh.

"This Emptiness" – L'Enfant Sauvage (2012)

My pick from L'Enfant Sauvage is a bonus track – the deepest of cuts! I have no idea who thought "This Emptiness" wasn't good enough to be on L'Enfant Sauvage, or how every Gojira fan doesn't talk about this song, but it's a rager without question.

"Pray" – Magma (2016)

Honestly, "Pray" is one of the best tracks on Magma because it sounds the least like Magma. This record has always struck me as a bit of a confused mess, but "Pray" is an underloved bright spot.

"Into The Storm" – Fortitude (2021)

An absolute behemoth of a track. From its dizzying opening to the groove it falls into, up to the stadium-sized chorus it hits, "Into The Storm" is a killer that Gojira really ought to play live at some point!
